In an effort to offer a more complete service to our customers, Spectrum has recently invested in specialized equipment for the surface finishing of laser cut parts.
We have purchased a weber deburring machine and a bowl type vibratory finishing machine.
This machine is German designed and built, it uses a combination of belts and brushes to deburr sharp edges and linish flat surfaces. The burrs that can be created in cut parts represent a significant problem for further processing of the parts. Frequently parts are deburred by hand with a right-angle grinder.
With the WEBER, Spectrum Laser can offer a patented grinding system for this purpose, which, regardless of the geometry, concentrates the grinding pressure on the edges. This can give a laser cut part a “finished” look while also removing dangerous sharp edges.

This is an Australian made machine, which uses a combination of chemical compounds and various media in a vibrating bowl.
Vibratory finishing is a type of mass finishing manufacturing process used to deburr, radius, descale, burnish, clean, and brighten a large number of relatively small workpieces.
In this batch-type operation, specially shaped pellets of media and the workpieces are placed into the tub of a vibratory tumbler. The tub of the vibratory tumbler and all of its contents are then vibrated. The vibratory action causes the media to rub against the workpieces which yield the desired result. Depending on the application this can be either a dry or wet process.
Unlike tumbling this process can finish internal features, such as holes. It’s also quicker and quieter. The process is performed in an open tub so the operator can easily observe if the required finish has been obtained. This can do everything from round off sharp edges to polish surfaces to an almost mirror finish.
